Taize picked back up for the first time since December 16 last week! This past week, our second week back, it was my turn to plan my focus around Catholic Schools Week.

Growing up in Catholic School, I always looked forward to Catholic Schools Week. The teachers I grew up with were meticulous with their planning, incorporating our faith throughout the week while also finding ways for us to dress up and let out our energy! Team Jersey Day was always a favorite of mine, as a lifelong Yankees baseball fan. We also had Crazy Hair or Crazy Hat Days, sometimes “Wear Your Class Color” Days. Sometimes even “Patriot Day” to go all out with red, white, and blue — our USA colors.

And every day, our teachers were able to bring this new energy towards our faith and lessons. We had mass every week as a school, all of us filling the pews as our Pastor led us in prayer, it makes me nostalgic just thinking about it. I used to look for where my brothers and sister were sitting.

The main focus of my Taize this past week was about Catholic and Christian education. I always loved the Gospel where Jesus tells the children to come to him, which is the one I chose for the first reading. I also included Pope Leo’s words about how important it is to keep Christ in our learning. I went to Catholic school my whole life, from Pre-School all the way through university. It’s an experience I loved and also am eternally grateful to my parents for giving me and my siblings. Being able to talk about faith at school and at home built a strong foundation for how I grew and questioned in my faith, how I was able to communicate about it with my parents, teachers, and coworkers.

I’m so blessed to be in House of Brigid with Teaghan, Sarah, and Maeve. Getting this chance to continue growing in our faith together is an incredible opportunity and I love that we get to use it to the best of our ability and live our lives to the fullest.
