Carolyn Pirtle, House Director
Carolyn is a native of Wichita, Kansas. She attended Kansas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a minor in English Literature (2003), as well as a Master of Music in Theory-Composition (2005). After taking a year off of studies to spend time at home with her family, Carolyn packed up her ruby slippers and moved to South Bend, Indiana, where she began her studies at the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 2008 as a Master of Sacred Music with an emphasis in choral and vocal music. She spent 2008-09 continuing her work as Assistant to the Director of the Notre Dame Folk Choir, Steve Warner, collaborating with him on several new choral pieces. She spent two years in Wexford as founding House Director of Teach Bhríde, and is now the music director and elementary music instructor at a parish in Chicago.
Jessica Mannen, House Director-in-Training
Jessica graduated from Notre Dame in 2009 with degrees in Music and Theology. She was a member of the Notre Dame Folk Choir for five years, and served at different times as the choir’s librarian and tour coordinator. She also served as the accompanist and music director for her residence hall’s liturgies. While an undergraduate, Jessica also initiated a program to teach music to young people at the Juvenile Justice Center of South Bend. After graduation, she spent a year as an intern in Campus Ministry at Notre Dame, working closely with the Folk Choir and the residence halls’ liturgical musicians. She has also spent four years with the Notre Dame Vision program, and served as music director the last two of those years.
Clarisa Ramos, Volunteer
Clarisa is a native of Duncanville, Texas. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance. Clarisa has been a member of the Notre Dame Folk Choir since the start of her freshman year and served as president of the ensemble in 2009-10. She began cantoring throughout the Diocese of Dallas, TX at age 12 and has also been a featured soloist on the University of Notre Dame PrayerCast, as well as Songs of Saints and Scholars. Clarisa’s experience with Liturgical Planning began in middle school, continued during high school where she took on the challenge of increasing student participation at school Masses and extended on to Notre Dame where while living on campus, she also worked with the liturgical commission of her dorm as Music Commissioner. She spent the summers of her undergraduate years working as a musician for the Notre Dame Vision program and as an intern for a not-for-profit international organization in Peru where she helped form children’s choirs. After her time in Ireland, she returned to Notre Dame to pursue a Master’s of Sacred Music.
Patrick Duffey, Volunteer
Patrick is a native of Mobile, Alabama, and graduated from Notre Dame in May 2010 with degrees in English and History. He has sung in the bass section of the Notre Dame Folk Choir since his freshman year, and is also an excellent guitarist. In 2009-10, he served as Folk Choir Secretary, and was involved as well in the program for the Juvenile Justice Center. He has spent his summers teaching math to underprivileged children, working at a camp for children with cancer, and working as a musician for the Notre Dame Vision program. Upon returning to the States, Patrick moved to Chicago to take a job as a paralegal, and he hopes to pursue a career in law.
