The children of the primary schools brought us all good tidings of great joy at the  Christmas Carol Services this week. Kennedy Park’s Carol Service revolved around the retelling of the Nativity story, through the words and actions of the classes of junior infants. In between dialogue, Christmas songs were sprinkled about to enhance the telling of the story.

My favorite character on stage was the human star, who was wearing a gold contraption that had a spot for his face to poke through and little pockets for his hands.

So hopefully all of our many rehearsals paid off and all attendees enjoyed the beautiful collection of songs, decorations, costumes, and retelling of Christmas stories and traditions. I think a most lovely time was had by all.

Scoil Mhuire had an equally beautiful and adorable Christmas Carol Service which included much music, many decorations and a very creative dialogue in between songs. Thanks to their multicultural students, they put together a service explaining the variety of Christmas traditions in many parts of the world and, in many cases, the narrative was succeeded by a song from that culture. It was most impressive to hear such a myriad of languages throughout the course of the service.

Other activities of the week included a Kennedy Park 4th class mass, complete with a few fun songs which we’d taught the class, a recited Christmas poem by all the members of the class, and a great little song in Irish! Also, lots of Christmas mass rehearsals, decorating, and our annual Christmas Radio show, which will air on Southeast Radio…sometime soon. And Annie Mattingly is here! We put her to work right away decorating Paul Bunyon’s Christmas tree at the Church.

Annie donated her height to the cause of the tippity-top of the tree

Paul Bunyon lent us his tree

So we await the coming of Christ with great joy and anticipation and are adjusting to a slightly less snowy Christmas season that we’ve experienced in the past. Alas, I’ve realized that clouds can look like snow if you squint hard enough. So finally, I’ll send you off with a farewell by the Teach Girls. Good(day) and joy be with you all!
